Nick is a PhD candidate in the Anthropology department at UCSB. His research focuses on how subsistence farming economies achieve sustainable livestock management strategies in the past. Specifically his work examines the ways in which risk and uncertainty shape sheep and goat herding decisions during the Neolithic on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. His research integrates paleoenvironmental and demographic modelling methodology as well as stable isotope analyses  to address the development of southeastern Europe's earliest farming economies beginning around 8,000 years ago.

As a part of CREW he uses his expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to summarize existing data pertaining to California's oil and gas industry and creates Story Maps that make these data accessible to the public.
